Getting started & your account

Who is Sable Servers?

Sable Servers Ltd. is a small, Canadian-owned hosting and IT company built and run from Nova Scotia. We host game servers, virtual servers, websites and storage, and we look after IT for businesses. When you write to us, a person from our team answers.

How fast is setup?

Game servers, VPS and web hosting are set up automatically once your payment clears, usually within minutes. Business IT, website design and other quoted work start once you’ve accepted a quote.

Where do I manage my services?

Everything lives in one account at unified.sableservers.com: your services, invoices, payment methods and support tickets. One login covers every service you have with us, in either city.

I didn’t get my welcome email. What now?

Check your spam or junk folder first. If it isn’t there, use “Forgot password” on the panel login page with the email you signed up with, or contact us and we’ll sort it out.

Do you offer a free trial?

No, but new services come with a money-back window, so you can try us without much risk. See the refund question under Billing.

Locations

Where are your servers?

We run two locations: Halifax, Nova Scotia (HFX1), our newestopening soon, and Montreal, Quebec (YUL1). Object storage is in Toronto. Both run on a 10 Gbps network, and a 10 Gbps port is available as an add-on in either city. Compare them on the Locations page.

Should I pick Halifax or Montreal?

Halifax costs less and gives the lowest ping in Atlantic Canada, with lots of cores and memory. Montreal has faster AMD EPYC processors and NVMe storage, and the lowest ping in Quebec and Ontario. You can have services in both cities on one account.

What’s the difference between Halifax’s HDD and Montreal’s NVMe storage?

Halifax uses RAID hard drives, which are fine for game files, backups, homelabs and most websites. Montreal uses RAID NVMe drives, which are much faster for databases, Windows and heavy modpacks. If disk speed matters to you, choose Montreal.

What ping can I expect?

From Halifax, it’s about 2 ms within Nova Scotia, under 15 ms across Atlantic Canada and about 25 ms to Ontario and Quebec. From Montreal, it’s about 5 ms in Quebec, 8 ms in Ontario and 20 ms to Atlantic Canada. Your own ISP and Wi-Fi add to this, so test your connection to each city on the Locations page.

Is my data kept in Canada?

Yes. Customer data is stored in Canada: in Halifax or Montreal for servers and hosting, and in Toronto for object storage. Some of our providers, such as Stripe for payments, may process data in the United States. Our Privacy Policy lists them.

Billing & payments

What currency do you charge in?

We always bill in Canadian dollars. Visitors on sableservers.com may see an approximate US dollar price, but that’s only a guide. If your card isn’t Canadian, your bank converts the CAD charge at its own rate.

Do your prices include tax?

We’re not currently registered to collect GST/HST, so our prices include no sales tax. If that changes, we’ll tell you before we add any tax the law requires.

How can I pay?

You can pay by credit or debit card through Stripe, by Interac e-Transfer to billing@sableservers.com, or with account credit. Put your invoice number in the e-Transfer message so we can match your payment.

What billing cycles are there?

You can pay monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or yearly. Longer cycles cost less, with up to 15% off on yearly. See current prices on each service page.

Do services renew automatically?

Yes. Services renew each cycle until you cancel. We send the invoice before the due date, and if you have a card saved, we charge it on the due date.

Will my price go up?

The price you sign up at is the price you keep. An active service keeps its price for as long as it stays on the same plan and billing cycle. The lock ends if you cancel, change plans, or the service is terminated for non-payment. Promotional discounts end when the promotion says they do.

What happens if I don’t pay on time?

If an invoice is still unpaid 3 days after the due date, the service is suspended. Paying the invoice brings it back. If it stays unpaid 7 days after suspension, the service is terminated and its data may be deleted. This 7-day period starts November 6, 2026; invoices due before then get 14 days.

Can I get a refund?

Cancel a new service within 30 days and we refund the unused part of the term, prorated. After 30 days there are no refunds for the current term. Setup fees, domains, licences and one-time services can’t be refunded.

How do I cancel?

Cancel any time from the panel. You choose whether the service ends now or at the end of the period you’ve paid for. Download anything you want to keep first, because we can’t recover data after a service is terminated.

Do you reward long-term customers?

Yes. After 12 months in a row with us, you get a free month of hosting. It’s applied to your account automatically, with no codes to enter.

Game servers

Which games can you host?

Minecraft, Rust, ARK, Palworld and more. If your game isn’t listed, a Custom Build can run many other dedicated-server titles. See the full list and current prices on Game servers.

How many players can join?

That depends on the plan and the game. Each plan on the Game servers page shows its player or slot count. You can upgrade if your community grows.

Can I install mods and plugins?

Yes. Paper, Forge, Fabric, Oxide, modpacks and Workshop content can be installed in one click from the panel. You can also upload files yourself with the file manager or SFTP. Take a backup before adding mods.

Are game servers backed up?

Automatic backups are an add-on: weekly, daily or every 6 hours, taken with no downtime. See current prices on the Game Servers page. You can also make a backup yourself from the panel before big changes.

Should I host my game server in Halifax or Montreal?

Choose Halifax for the lowest price and ping in Atlantic Canada. It suits vanilla and lightly modded worlds. Choose Montreal for heavy modpacks, ARK and Rust, which benefit from NVMe and faster cores.

Are game servers protected from DDoS attacks?

Yes. Firewall-based DDoS protection is included on every game server at no extra cost. You don’t need to set anything up. If attacks still affect your players, open a ticket.

Cloud Compute (VPS)

Do I get full root access?

Yes. Linux VPS are KVM virtual machines with full root access, so you can install and configure whatever you need within the Acceptable Use Policy.

Which operating systems can I choose?

For Linux, you can choose Ubuntu, Debian, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux and more. For Windows, we have Windows Server 2019, 2022 and 2025 templates. You can reinstall or switch operating systems from the panel. See Cloud Compute (VPS).

Does a Windows VPS include a licence?

No. Windows VPS is bring your own licence. The server comes unactivated, and you supply a valid Microsoft licence and are responsible for it. Windows is available in both cities. Montreal is faster.

What is a HomeLab VPS?

A HomeLab VPS is a private server with no public IPv4 address, which you reach over your own WireGuard network. It’s a cheap, safe place for home automation helpers, CI runners and experiments. See HomeLab VPS.

Can I upgrade my VPS later?

Yes. You can move to a larger plan from the panel. Changing plans moves you to that plan’s current price, so it ends the price lock on the old plan.

Are VPS backed up?

Automated snapshots are available as an add-on. See current prices on Cloud Compute (VPS). Either way, keep your own copies of anything important.

Do I get a dedicated IP address?

Linux and Windows VPS come with a dedicated IPv4 address. HomeLab VPS don’t have a public IPv4. To ask about extra IPv4 addresses or IPv6, open a ticket.

Web hosting, email & storage

Is SSL included?

Yes. Every domain on your hosting plan gets a free Let’s Encrypt certificate, and we renew it for you. It’s issued once your domain points to us.

Can I run WordPress?

Yes. You can install and update WordPress from the panel, and try changes on a staging copy before they go live. Each site runs in its own container, so one busy site doesn’t slow down another. See Web hosting.

How often are websites backed up?

Basic plans are backed up weekly, Standard daily, and Business and higher plans hourly. Backups are a safety net. Keep your own copy of anything important.

Does hosting include email?

Yes. Every plan includes mailboxes on your own domain, with webmail. For a business that needs Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace set up and managed, see Business IT.

Do you register domains?

No. Register your domain with any registrar, then point it to us. We can help with the DNS settings if you get stuck.

Can you design my website?

Yes. Our team builds websites and custom business applications, and we host them in Canada. Design work is quoted. See Website design.

What is object storage?

Object storage gives you S3-compatible buckets for backups, media and app files. It works with tools like rclone, restic, Veeam and Synology Hyper Backup. You create buckets and keys in the same panel as your servers. See Object storage.

Where is object storage located?

Buckets are in our CA-East region in Toronto, on Backblaze B2 infrastructure, so your files stay in Canada. If you need more than 10 TB, talk to us.

Business IT & managed services

What does Business IT include?

Three services for a small number of local businesses: Managed IT (help desk, remote support and device management), Networks & On-site (network installs, Wi-Fi, cameras and security reviews), and Web Design & Apps. Managed IT can include running your Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace: onboarding, offboarding, SSO, email and security. Tell us what you need and we send a written quote.

How fast do you respond?

That depends on your plan: Essentials gets a response within 24 hours, Complete within 8 hours, and Secure within 4 hours. Response time is how quickly an engineer starts work on a new request. If you need a faster response, we can quote it.

Do you come on-site?

Yes. We visit businesses across the Atlantic provinces. We support businesses anywhere in Canada remotely.

How do I get a quote?

Use the quote form on Business IT or Contact. You don’t need an account. Your request becomes a ticket in our client panel, so you can follow it there. Once you accept a quote, its terms apply alongside our Terms of Service.

What’s the difference between Semi-Managed and Fully Managed servers?

With Semi-Managed, we monitor your server, apply security updates, manage backups and help when something breaks. Fully Managed adds full management of the operating system, applications and security, plus disaster recovery and a dedicated account manager. Both are billed per server each month. See Managed services.

Can you move us from another provider?

Yes. We can move servers, websites, databases and email to us. We quote each move once we know what’s involved.

Support & security

How do I get help?

Open a ticket in the Unified Panel. A person from our team in Nova Scotia will reply. We don’t run a call centre or a phone line for hosting support. If you don’t have an account, use the contact form or email hello@sableservers.com. Include the service, what went wrong, when it started and any error messages.

Do you have a Discord?

Yes. Our Discord community is the place for questions, tips and announcements. Account and billing issues need a ticket, so we can check who you are.

Where can I check for outages?

The Status page shows the current state of our services and any planned maintenance. You’ll also get service emails about outages and maintenance that affect you.

Do you guarantee uptime?

We don’t promise an uptime percentage. We use current hardware, DDoS protection and backups. If something goes wrong, you’ll see it on the Status page and hear from us directly.

How do I secure my account?

Turn on two-factor authentication in the panel with any authenticator app. You can mark trusted devices so you aren’t asked for a code every time. One account covers all your services, so turning on 2FA once protects all of them.

How do you protect my data?

Traffic is encrypted with HTTPS/TLS, passwords are hashed, and only staff who need access have it. See our Privacy Policy for what we collect and how long we keep it. For privacy requests, email privacy@sableservers.com.

How do I report abuse or a copyright problem?

Email abuse@sableservers.com with the IP address or URL, what’s happening and any evidence. Under Canada’s Notice and Notice system, we forward valid copyright notices to the customer. Read the Acceptable Use Policy for what isn’t allowed.

Prices shown in your currency are approximate. We bill in Canadian dollars.
